Scotts Bluff, Nebraska

What a cool place to visit. Scotts Bluff National Memorial is a history lesson on pioneer days. Scotts Bluff was a milestone on the Oregon Trail as settlers journeyed to the rich farmland in Oregon, the gold rush in California, or the Promised Land of Utah for mormons. Shout out to all of our peer group who also grew up playing Oregon Trail on the computers at school. No one contracted dysentery on this trip, lol.

Little prickly pears are everywhere out west.
It’s rattlesnake season…they shed their skins and strike at anything.
Yucca plant with stalk in front of a butte.
An old fur trading post that was a hub in pioneer days, as there weren’t many outposts on the Oregon Trail. You can see iron skillets and furs hanging on the walls inside.
We picked up these books at thrift stores. This was a great opportunity to read about pioneer life. On the left is a graphic novel about the Donner Party, which we all enjoyed. We also watched “Far and Away” about the Oklahoma land rush. Love that movie! We all decided we’d have been pioneers if we’d have been alive back then.
