In Conclusion

We bought a house in Arizona.

Living in the RV for two years was awesome! And it was real life. Chores, work and school had to happen every day. It wasn’t all vacation. Then covid. Eventually (inevitably?) packing up, moving and unpacking became exhausting. But despite any challenges, we’re lucky to have been able to do this trip. There’s a line from the Robin Williams movie “RV” that says something like, “If you want to learn a lot about yourself and your family, put them all in an RV for a while” (paraphrasing). So true. It was a great opportunity for reflection (ironically, that is the name of our rig.. Reflection by Grand Design). It was real life and it wasn’t always easy, but it was worth it. We got to see so many places we never thought we’d get to see, and do so many things and enjoy so many new experiences.

As far as the rig itself, the open floor plan was what made it possible for us to survive living in it. Every family/couple/individual has different needs in a rig, and probably the most important part of buying a new one is going to a lot of RV shows and a lot of RV lots and looking at a lot of floorplans to find the right fit. The fact that Jackson had his own bedroom with a closet and a door on the opposite end of the rig from our room was key. Having the kitchen only two steps from the couch was awesome too. And when the main living room slide went out and opened up the living space, we were able to fully function. Without that, we wouldn’t have made it. Slides make it possible, lol. (At least for us.)

This blog is meant for us to look back on when memories begin to fade and we feel the tug of nostalgia. We have many, many more photos than what we shared on here (just too many to post), but this blog is a narrative, however incomplete, of our trip. We have some videos that we may edit and post at some point in the future (which will probably prove embarrassingly funny), and maybe we’ll post some of our future travels, too. Thanks to those of you who followed our wildly unpopular blog over the past two years. 😂

ARIZONA

We lived in the RV while house hunting, which was super convenient. We stayed in Catalina State Park for a week, at a casino for a week (though we don’t gamble lol), and at a resort KOA for the rest of the time. We chose Arizona because it has low humidity, no real winter, and about 300 days of sunshine (good for mood). We still have the RV and plan to travel when it’s too hot to handle Arizona.

CATALINA STATE PARK

Diamondback Rattlesnake (Catalina State Park had the highest concentration of venomous critters of all our travels).
Tarantula
Bobcat
Huge cactuses are everywhere…
…for perspective.
Almost stepped on this one. Let out the loudest holler of my life. It wouldn’t move, either. Turned back. Lol
Nightshades. They open at night and close during the day when it’s hot.
Our campsite.
Mohave shovel nosed snake
Black widow

LIFE IN ARIZONA SO FAR

We have a long list of things to do in AZ. Here are some highlights from this fall.

We’re hockey fans. One of our first activities was looking up the local AHL team.
Our neighborhood gets really into Halloween.
Thunder & Lightning Over Arizona Air Show.
Harry got a haircut.
We can make campfire in our backyard.
Hummingbirds live here year-round.
Jackson volunteered to do a mock launch of the Titan Missile. Yikes. (This is a fantastic museum and gives a lot of insight into how terrifyingly close we came to destroying human life on planet Earth during the Cold War. This is the only remaining Titan Missile site. All others were dismantled and completely erased following the SALT and SALT II treaties.)

BIOSPHERE 2

This was such a big deal in the media when we were kids! Can’t believe we got to go there. And we didn’t even realize it was in Arizona. Researchers lived in the bubble for two years. Kinda felt familiar…lol.

THE RIG

This is where we lived for 2+ years. (People always seem curious about it, so here it is.) 😁

The fridge and couch are in the main slide. (Jackson’s bedroom is past the fridge and has a wooden pocket door.)
Fun Fact: The microwave died on the first weekend of the trip during a brown-out at an over-crowded campground — so we didn’t use the microwave for the entire 2+ years! lol. The light, clock and timer worked though, and we used it as storage, so it did serve a purpose.
(There is a wooden pocket door between the bathroom and our bedroom.)

🎄Merry Christmas and Wishing Everyone Out There a Happy 2022!🥳
